I was fascinated by the monstrosity of this wooden structure. In 1:87 HO scale, it was nearly four feet long. I really didn't know much about the history of the cannery, but the exterior of the structure I found impressive, especially from a "model railroad" perspective. Not to mention it was close to the tracks, which for some reason made it much more legitimate. It was torn down just a couple years after I made the model to make way for a new county jail. As I recall, this was the first structure I had ever measured and built specifically to re-create something in scale. Talk about biting off more than I could chew! I worked non-stop for three weeks during a Christmas break from college. I later donated the model to the Kent Historical Society.
