This video will introduce you to how I have been adding a cambium and bark coatings to dowels. These dowels have bark detail added, but this is probably also possible with plain dowels.  This will work with my Coastmans logs too, which currently come dyed, but I suggest performing some scraping first before getting started with adding coatings.

60-second tree making video:
They say "you can't be an expert at everything" and what is true is that I am NOT
the video expert! Here I managed to upload 60+ seconds of tree making activity
showing me placing the green branches material onto the tree trunks. -Rog
Here's another video where I'm making a 7 inch tree. Keep in mind, this is just the "basic layup". There are several steps afterwards where I add additional turf, the highlights, and the "bug spray" (dead needle effect around the edges).  Premium Trees go on to have the dead branches and root details, plus mosses (2) and lichen "dots" color added.

Here's a quick 4 minute video I made with a GoPro where I'm making an 11 inch tree.  No verbal instruction, just me going at it.  The other videos below have more instruction, etc.

Part One: Basic Tree "Layup" (Caution, volume may be loud)

Part Two: Adding More Foliage & Dead Branches
