New Item! Forest Floor. It's on the Dead Branches page, scroll 2/3 way down.
New blog posts related to grain elevators / grain bins, also how I use tree planting pins: click here.
New video making 11 incher tree in 4 minutes, click here.
"Fly in" over a whopping 75 trees!  (7"x50 & 9"x25)
This gives you a better idea of what I'm making here recently...

Time for a foresty photo. Finally, I've been getting a little scenery work done on Oregon Coast Railroad! All I can think about when I'm doing this is, "Hey, this is fun!!!"  This is supposed to be late fall somewhere up in the woods out of Nehalem, Oregon, USA.  The Port of Tillamook Bay (old SP coast route) climbs its way up & over (before the washout in '07). I promise I will add some ripples, maybe even a little more water, to that stream (if you order trees today :)

The "Research" Continues...

...On the sequoia trees. These two are 31.5" trees, with a 4 to 6" base. Here I've been working to develop a silvery appearance to the otherwise reddened bark, and used "rootier" branches to support the foliage. Next go will be a bit more rounded appearance to the base of the tree.  This model was used in some video footage I've been playing with! :)

Coastmans Trees Featured in
Commercial for Microsoft X-BOX Video Game Machine

Last summer I was by an advertising agency in Los Angeles to produce large model trees (~36 inches) for use in a commercial for the latest X-BOX video game console.  At that time, they were the largest trees I'd made, and also (I felt) produced quite rapidly.  The commercial has aired. It is an online commercial, not a TV commercial. There are also trees from other tree makers in the scenes, however I was told that the Coastmans trees are "up front & center". Here are a few clips from the commercial which is also available freely for viewing at this time. The full-length video is viewable on YouTube by clicking here.
While I can't say I'm familiar with the X-BOX device, I will say this is greatest quantity and largest trees I've ever produced. Most all of these trees were shaped on a "lathe-router" machine, with bark detail added with a SABURRTOOTH wheel. Branches and foliage were added individually.  Note similarity to "October" tree below. -R

New! Digital STL Downloads FREE and also some pay-per downloads For 3D Printing

Picture
I made so many STL's for 3D printing, I thought I'd better share the wealth. It's taking me a little time to upload them (one at a time is the only option) so this is a work-in-progress. I charge for these more advanced drawings, but I'm also putting up some others for free!

8/29/20: Stumpstuff in stock! Green Branches in stock! Thanks!! :)

Like sailing? We do! Here's a couple video clips from our recent adventure to the San Juan Islands, Washington State. Hattie K at the helm here, yours truly behind the cell cam. We enjoyed 4/5 days of great wind, enough to sail further than we even wanted to! A very generous person actually gave us this boat outright, complete with sails, fully functional motor and trailer. Unreal. There are great people out there!!! :)

2/22/20: Fun with photography. These are a few trees headed out the door, so I thought I'd get a few shots. Since we had been 3D printing our willing friends for the Lighthouse model, I grabbed this one and placed her in "the Redwoods"! Can you find her?

Strength has been improved, but it still tears easily with your fingers. You can make whatever size pieces you need.
Picture
Available solo and included with all of our Fir Tree Kits.

Stronger, more durable, and with "less fallout" than
 previous versions.

Our New Green Branches continue on into newness by virtue of a stream of
improvements. The ratio of components has been refined considerably. There's
over 400mL of PVA in each sheet of Thick and nearly 200 in each sheet of Thin.
Turf is much better retained. The applied material holds its' shape on the trunk
exactly as intended. Zero drooping (unless you want it to). This means you
receive a superior product that allows you to make great trees with less effort
"than ever before". In fact, I hope it's not too tough!  See it
here.

We are manufacturing in Port Orford, Oregon

Click here for short videos about how we make the tree parts.  In one video we
are fine-tuning the tapering of some 9" second growth trunks. Also shown in that
video is the addition of the bark detail and the drilling of holes in the trunks for the
future placement of dead branches.  Other videos include how the dead branches
are sorted out and some of the steps for making the older version of green branch material.
